A Mindful Moment:
If you are willing, and if you wish to do so, please scan your body for a part of you that feels okay; a part of you that doesn’t hurt; a part of you that feels comfortable or neutral. See if you can direct your focus fully onto this part of you that feels okay. What do you notice? Perhaps it is your foot or a finger or an ear. What is it like noticing how this part of your body feels okay?
Perhaps another part of you is less comfortable. Perhaps it is calling your focus to discomfort. Acknowledge the discomfort. Acknowledge pain. You know its there. Then shift your mind back to focusing on the part of your body that feels okay. This doesn’t change the discomfort in the other part of your body. What do you notice about the discomfort as you mindfully focus on the part of you that feels okay.
It is possible that you won’t notice any difference. Or, perhaps you notice that you can feel part uncomfortable and part okay at the same time. Perhaps for a period of time, you can have some little bit of control over which senstations are at the forefront of your attention. Or, perhap not but it was a good experiment.
